Capstone Project - Fall 2016
The Benefits Students Receive From Meeting Local Artists and Seeing Their Art
For my Capstone project, I had five artists come, during four different visits (two of them came together) and show the students their art work. Three of the artists allowed students to interview them about their art making processes and inspirations, and the other two artists spoke about their artistic backgrounds while teaching a lesson to the students.
Students helped me with the filming and editing of the videos, interviews, and of course, participated in the art making lessons. They were able to see a variety of artists who used a wide variety of art media, including: oil, acrylic, watercolor, mosaic, and collage. We have also scheduled more artists to visit after the Capstone project is over, so this will be an ongoing project in my classroom this year.
The benefits students received were numerous and varied from reports of learning new skills in a new medium, to learning that their art does not have to be like anyone else's, to learning to never give up, and always go after their dreams. Students received helpful advice along with their art skills and a feeling of pride and accomplishment in their work.

They are all private and password protected in order to help protect student identities, but you can e-mail me for the password if you are a UF student or faculty member and interested in viewing the videos, or if you are one of my students or their parents.
I created an ISSUU publication for this project, which can be found here:

Here is my Pinterest board I created when researching my topic:

And I also created a Scoop.it board with research on the topic:

Below I am posting some still photos of the artists, which were taken during their visits. We were glad to find the digital photos of our first guest, Ethan Howze, especially after finding that our video had recorded on time-lapse fast forward speed. I learned from the technical difficulties during this process every bit as much as the students did.
Artist #1 - Ethan Howze - Acrylic and digital painter
Artists #2 and #3 - Carlene Barnhill and Beth Hatfield - Acrylic and Oil painters.
Artist #4 - Kay Richoux - Acrylic, watercolor, and Resin Artist
Artist #5 - Sue Gray - Mosaic Artist
If you look here at the ISSUU publication link (I previously posted) you can read artist bio's and links to their own websites:

And last, but not least, below is a pdf file with my capstone summary. It won't really make sense unless you attend the Adobe connect meeting to hear the presentation. :)
I will be adding the Capstone paper as soon as approval is final.
We appreciate all of our visiting artists and the lessons they taught us. Thank you!!!
